About Me

Faisal_ My name is Faisal Mehmood and I am currently living in Lahore, Pakistan. I’ve travelled around the world quite a lot, and lived in Fort Worth, TX while I attended the University of Texas at Dallas graduating with a degree in Computer Science.

I started programming when I was sixteen, on a very old Pentium 166 machine (my phone has a faster processor than that!). I was destined to be a doctor, but my parents bought me a PC back in 1996 which was probably why I dropped Biology and Chemistry and took up on CS and Statistics – so yes, I never became a doctor.

I built an IRC server along with a couple of friends and learnt a lot about linux, C and Pascal programming. We hosted these servers on a pakistani infrastructure which was still mostly running on dial-ups with a few servers hosted out of the U.S. Our nodes would go down whenever it would rain (faulty phone lines) but then it was 1996, and it was hard to tell people what exactly a slackware box running an IRC Daemon really meant.

I kept the dream alive throughout college, and kept programming (mostly port sniffers, and back door tools). It was really cool to show friends that you could turn their screen into black and green like in The Matrix (those who ever used sub seven or back orfice know what i am talking about). These endeavors, along with some small website projects helped me convince my parents that this could be a plausible career path.

After graduation – I’ve worked as a Systems Analyst for Verizon (Now Idearc) and helped out in Superpages.com, Systems Administrator for Wateen and my current stint is working as a Sr. Mgr. Product Development at Stratasoft – a trg tech (The Resource Group) owned company based out of Houston Texas.

Needless to say that, my passion for software, and computers grows with every passing day. I’ve seen the industry morph from pure code and  science into an art form, where design, creativity and innovation play an equally vital role as the actual technical aspects. Hence the job I do, is probably the best job I could ever ask for.

I get to dream things, design them, help implement them, and then send them out into the world. Sounds cliché, but it really is the truth.
